Gaisler Research AB is awarded a contract for developing the LEON4 processor
Gaisler Research AB announced that a contract with the amount of 165000 Euro has been signed by Gaisler Research and the Swedish National Space Board. The aim of the development is to improve the highly popular LEON3 processor with respect to performance. The LEON4 processor will be provided in a fault tolerant version for space applications and in a standard version for consumer and industrial applications.

Gaisler Research AB announced that a license agreement has been signed for the use of the LEON3 multiprocessor with EONIC BV (Netherlands). The LEON3 and the GRLIB IP library will be used in EONIC’s Multi channel Digital Recorder/Replay systems (SIGINT 5000 series). The SIGINT 5000 series are setting the operational standard for signal intelligence, communications and other mission critical data recording applications.

SpaceWire Remote Terminal Controller prototype delivered to ESA The European Space Agency (ESA) is funding a development activity aimed at designing, manufacturing and validating a SpaceWire Remote Terminal Controller (RTC), an embedded system for space applications, implemented as an Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC). The SpaceWire RTC is based on the GRLIB IP core library and the LEON2-FT VHDL model. The ASIC features SpaceWire and CAN bus interfaces, and will be manufactured on a 0,18 um radiation hardened technology. Gaisler Research receives order for the Fault Tolerant LEON3 processor implemented in an Actel RTAX2000 FPGA from ACER in Taiwan. The Taiwanese National Space Organization (NSPO) announced earlier this year that the on-board computer for the ARGO satellite will be based on the LEON3-FT fault tolerant processor implemented in a radiation tolerant Actel RTAX2000S FPGA. Gaisler Research has now received the order for the LEON3-FT-RTAX design from ACER who is designing the on board computer for the satellite. |

LEON processor in focus at DASIA 2006 conference in Berlin
The international space system engineering conference DASIA 2006 (DAta Systems In Aerospace) was held this year in May in Berlin, Germany. At the conference, the LEON processor was presented in more than ten presentation.
A complete panel session was dedicated to the LEON processor, during which Gaisler Research presented a wide range of applications in which the LEON processor is being used, ranging from future 1000 MIPS multiprocessing systems, via dedicated microcontrollers, to radiation tolerant FPGAs.

LEON used in space-based supercomputer design at Los Alamos
The Los Alamos National Laboratory has announced the funding of a new space payload in which the fault tolerant LEON2 processor will be used. The the new space payload will dramatically increases on-orbit computational capabilities. The project is jointly sponsored by the National Nuclear Security Administration's (NNSA) Office of Nonproliferation Research and Development (NA-22), and the U.S. Department of Defense.
The new payload based on a platform of field-programmable gate array (FPGA), on Atmel Corporation's new AT697 RadHard SPARC processor which is based on the LEON2 fault tolerant processor IP core, and on new chalcogenide C-RAM.
